Abstract

In this chapter we start by asking what is qualitative research and, after identifying common characteristics, goals, and approaches, we ask further questions about its use, why it is trustworthy, and illustrate our answers with examples. We then frame contemporary qualitative work within critical perspectives and the context of present global discourses regarding knowledge and science. We finish the chapter with illustrations of creative new methods.
