OtherThis conference will explore the link between natural environment, poverty and sustainability in the Asian region and how a better understanding of the link can significantly increase the potential to achieve sustainable development for the people living in the those areas. The conference objectives are to bring together economists and other social scientists from Malaysia, Australia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, South Africa and United States of America to:
 provide an interdisciplinary platform for academics and practitioners to discuss emerging issues on sustainable development change and share ideas;
 exchange information on policies and practices in the Asian region related to sustainable development;
 propose multidisciplinary strategies for economic, socio-political, cultural and institutional changes to achieve sustainable development;
 strengthen research and educational linkages and establish cross national projects on sustainable development for rural communities in Asia.
