Abstract

This chapter explores the critical role of human capital management in Australasian organizations during the COVID-19 pandemic and brings to light the unprecedented disruptions caused in the region. Specifically, it discusses the challenges faced by businesses, which include widespread job losses, economic instability, and mental health issues of the staff, as well as the sector-specific impacts across education, retail, tourism, and hospitality. The chapter then reviews the government measures and initiatives aimed at supporting employees and businesses, such as financial relief, training programs, and mental health support. As the Australasian region moves towards post-pandemic recovery, it addresses the evolving workforce dynamics and proposes strategies for improving human capital management to promote adaptability and tackle persistent labor market challenges. Finally, the chapter concludes by underscoring the necessity for organizations to take proactive measures to foster resilient human capital in the face of future uncertainties.
