Personal profile

Research biography

I have a combination of senior experience and expertise in both scientific research and research management, with the unique element of concurrently maintaining both expertises. My research expertise and experience is in physical chemistry, specifically colloid and interface science. After completing my PhD at UniSA, I undertook a postdoc at the University of Bristol for a one year period. Returning to Australia, I held research-only fellow appointments for ten years at the Ian Wark Research Institute, UniSA, working as an applied colloid and surface chemist. My research collaborations have included key multi-national industry partners: Rio Tinto, Tiwest, and Cytec Industries. The research funding I have received totals over $5M, including industry and nine ARC Linkage Projects.

I have undertaken industry-based, secondment research positions with Rio-Tinto Technical Services in Melbourne, and Cytec Industries in Stanford, Connecticut, USA, and a fellowship placement at University College London (UK), while employed at UniSA. More recently, while working as Director Research, I held academic professorial appointments at Flinders and Victoria Universities I am currently an Adjunct Research Professor at University of South Australia, Future Industries Institute.
